The 10th annual Books Along the Teche Literary Festival will bring nationally recognized authors, live music and cultural events to New Iberia April 10–12, celebrating Acadiana’s literary and historical roots.
The festival will feature author talks, live music, and guided tours, with appearances by writers including Juliette Cross, Dave Robicheaux and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Bragg.
Festival highlights include the “Beignets & Beats” Cajun breakfast at Bambino’s Burgers on Saturday morning and the “Prose and Pours” happy hour at Shadows on the Teche on Friday evening. Live music will take place throughout the weekend in downtown New Iberia, featuring groups such as The Revelers and performers including Terry Huval and Gale Whitling.
Co-chairs of the festival Deb and Paul Lindsey say this year’s festival will be the largest yet.
“This event brings tourists from all over the country who get to experience their little slice of Acadiana,” said Paul.
The festival is a yearlong effort for Deb and Paul, who say planning begins as soon as one event ends. This year, their goal was to make all literary events free and accessible to the public.
“We strongly believe anything involving books should be widely accessible, regardless of ability to pay,” said Deb. With support from sponsors and donations, the festival will also feature prizes and awards for the first time.
Volunteer Andrea Bourque said the festival highlights Acadiana culture and community.
“It’s one of the most beautiful events that I’ve been to. It shows our heart as a community,” she said. She pointed to Friday night’s Shadows on the Teche, featuring the Bunk Johnson Brass Band and a buffet by Chef Alex Patout, as a favorite.
“It beautifully sets the stage for who we are as Louisianians,” she added.
With the festival rapidly approaching, tickets can be bought online, and a full schedule regarding the events can be found on the Books Along the Bayou website at https://booksalongthetecheliteraryfestival.com.
