All content produced by the Cypress Lake Wire is free for editors to distribute on their own news platforms under the following conditions:

  • Credit given to the authors and the service. All materials used by commercial or non-commercial news outlets must be given byline credit for the author and the wire service. News outlets may not remove or alter authorship information for any content used. This allows us to give credit to our students, so that they may add work to their online portfolios.
  • Notice of publication. We ask that editors make us aware when they publish content provided by the wire service. A simple notice via email or Twitter is fine. This allows us to keep track of where student work is being published throughout the state and region.
  • Stories linked from other news sites may not be used without explicit permission from the original publisher. Student work featured on the site is frequently published first on other area news sites. These will contain phrases in their headlines such as “From the Advocate” or “From the Current.” These stories may not be repurposed without permission from these organizations.
  • Do not change content to misrepresent authorship. All content may be edited to fit house style or other appropriate editing considerations, but news outlets may not alter the content in any way that misrepresents the author’s original statement. For example, selectively removing information to support or undermine an argument that is counter to what the author intended is not permitted.

Original content published by the Cypress Lake Wire is available under a Creative Commons 4.0 Attribution license. Third-party materials are the copyright of their respective owners and shared under various licenses.
